Our fire damage cleaning solutions are second to none.
When you first talk to our team, we will ask you to provide photos and videos of the extent of fire damage on your property. This allows our representatives to provide you with a free, no-obligation quote and pass this along to our technicians.
We will walk you through the process they conduct on your property, and one of our cleaners will arrive on-site to assess the property. They will take note of the different areas of damage and identify the materials that have been damaged or destroyed. Our technicians will also assess and document the structural damage as well as any other safety hazards that may be present.
Once we have assessed the damage, our cleaners will begin the restoration process immediately. We use industrial-strength cleaning machines and specialised cleaning products to remove soot, smoke, and other residues from the affected areas.
We also use odour neutralisation technology to remove any unpleasant smells. Additionally, we will safely dispose of all debris from the property off-site when we leave the area.
What does home insurance cover for a fire?
Most home insurance policies will automatically include fire insurance, covering the damage and losses to your property caused by fire and smoke. It will cover any cleaning, repairing, rebuilding, and replacement costs that may occur due to a house fire.
If you have contents insurance included in this, your belongings are covered for replacement or purchase depending on the extent of the damage.
If you are unsure of the extent of coverage you have in your home insurance, you must contact your provider or check your documents. Every provider will offer various levels of coverage for a different price, so you must always speak to someone if you do not understand some of your policies.
Home insurance policies will not cover all properties, or your claim may become void depending on how the fire on your property started. The following may be invalid claims:
- If you have vacated your property for more than 30 to 60 days, you may not be able to claim for fire damage
- If you failed to install fire or smoke detectors, or they stopped working before the fire started, your claim could be affected drastically
- Failing to inform your provider that you are conducting home renovations could affect your claim if a fire occurs
- Smokers must inform their provider that they or anyone in the house smokes. Lying about this could affect a claim due to a fire caused by cigarettes
- A claim that concerns arson may not be covered due to the risk of fraudulent claims, but providers that cover arson will investigate the fire extensively
The risks of smoke and soot odours
After a fire occurs on your property, you will detect the smell of smoke lingering everywhere, even in places where the fire did not spread to. When fire burns, it releases black smoke, which is incomplete combustion, creating carbon and carbon monoxide. The smoke seeks out all nearby surfaces, embedding tiny soot particles into porous objects.
Soot particles are smaller than red blood cells and can invade even the smallest pores in wood or concrete. The soot particles collect on a surface, accumulating into a layer of black dust, which we know as soot or creosote.
These particles contain chemicals and toxins such as sulphur dioxide, tar, arsenic, methane, and carbon monoxide. They are easily disturbed when touched and can invade your body quickly by inhaling. These particles can line the inside of your lungs and enter your bloodstream, which can cause premature death when inhaled enough. You could also be at risk of:
- Lung cancer
- Bladder cancer
- Oesophageal cancer
- Asthma
- Bronchitis
- Respiratory diseases
