What causes mould?

Mould grows environments that contain excess moisture. It is usually caused by high levels of humidity and moisture, and a lack of or poor ventilation. This is often the case in kitchens and bathrooms.

Water damage may also lead to mould growth, such as a leaky roof, burst pipe or faulty plumbing. Mould thrives in dark environments, too, as UV light can kill it. Dark areas with a consistent source of water are very vulnerable to mould, so it can easily grow in places where you cannot see it, like behind your wallpaper or under your carpet.

A moisture survey can assess the level of damp in your home and the kind of mould growing in it by testing a sample of the mould present in the environment.

To do this, our mould cleaners use a pump that forces pressurised air into a collection device. This provides us with a fair sample for testing that we send off to the lab. It will help establish the best course of treatment for you.
